About Me

Welcome to my corner of the internet!
I’m Dr. Philip Hulbig, a dedicated researcher, educator, and advocate for neurodiversity working to bring metacognitive mentorship and problem-solving into education at every level. With a background in special education, human development, and the neurology of learning, I am passionate about understanding and supporting those who think differently. I have pursued advanced studies in special education, human development, metacognitive problem-solving and the impact of emotions on learning. I have presented at and attended numerous conferences related to education and psychology, and written The Pedagogy of Self-Authorship a scientific investigation of the neuropsychology of metacognition and development of self-regulated learning.

I strive to create inclusive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all students and am deeply committed to advocating for neurodiversity and fostering a greater understanding of the unique strengths and challenges faced by those who think differently. To bridge the gap between research and practice I have put together a powerful Metacognitive Mentorship Program called Wholistic Problem Solving, which can be implemented at the individual, classroom and district levels. The primary goal of this program is to get all student both the opportunity to learn the important scientifically based learning strategy of metacognitive problem solving, and have the leadership opportunity of being a metacognitive mentor.
INDIVIDUALS:
If you would like to learn the practice of Metacognitive Problem Solving or are in need of a mentor who can help you understand and address you neurodiversity I offer both classes and individual sessions.

Let’s Connect
SCHOOLS and CLASSROOM TEACHERS:
Schools and class teachers that are interested in in starting a metacognitive mentorship program please reach out. I offer implementation, training, support and consulting in how you can build a self-sustaining metacognitive mentorship systems in individual classrooms or across school systems. School wide programs in both primary and secondary level that would ensure all incoming freshmen receive a metacognitive mentor and all sophomores a leadership experience as a mentor can be supported.
COMMUNITIES and PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
If you are a community interested in the neuropsychology of metacognition, learning or the subject of neurodiversity generally or are an organization interested in professional development in metacognitive pedagogy, self-regulated learning, or the educational implications of certain specific neurological diagnosis I offer numerous trainings where I help to make these important, abstract and at times difficult subjects understandable.
