Figure Weights — Quantitative Reasoning
Quantitative Reasoning · Fluid Intelligence

Figure Weights

How this works

Each problem shows one or more balance scales. Every scale shown is perfectly balanced — the shapes on the left weigh exactly the same as the shapes on the right.

The last scale has a question mark on one side. Use the balanced scales as clues to figure out which set of shapes would balance it, then choose from the options below.

Rules of thumb: Shape weights are consistent within a problem but change between problems. Each item is timed — 20 seconds for early items, 30 for later ones. If time runs out, the test moves on.

You'll start with one untimed practice problem.

Which option balances the scale?

Informal analogue of the WAIS-IV Figure Weights subtest for instructional and demonstration purposes. It is not a normed or standardized instrument and yields no scaled scores. Tiers: Matching (1–3), One-scale substitution (4–7), Two-scale chains (8–11), Multi-scale reasoning (12–15).
